The following are word strategies taught in the Title One room:
1. Look at the picture. Use the beginning letter.
2. Get your mouth ready. Say the first sound.
3. Slowly stretch each letter sound together.
4. Break the word into chunks you know. (m at, fl at, spl at ter)
5. Try to re-read the sentence. Think about what would make sense.
6. Skip the tricky word. Read to the end. Go back and try it again.
7. Flip the vowel sound. Try long and short vowels.
