Have your child pick a paragraph of at least five sentences. Ask your child to read the chosen passage aloud as you time them. Record the time it took to read the passage. Repeat this at least five times per week. It only takes a minute! Use the same passage until your child plateaus for about three readings, then choose a new passage to repeat this procedure. Continue with this routine for the entire school year. You will be amazed at how this simple procedure will increase your child's eye movement across the page.
